Dr. Seuss Activities Day Two

Picture2This week, we have been celebrating author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss! Tuesday we focused on Cat in the Hat it was also silly sock day! The kids have been loving this week’s Dress Up Days, it’s a great way to substitute show-and-tell.

0303151155aWe had some silly laughs as we all shared our silly socks and outfits during circle time. It was a great way to show patterns, shapes, and colors because all the kids had different socks on and got to share with the class what shapes and colors were on their socks. I had several copies of each book sitting out so that each kid could read them and look at all the silly illustrations throughout the day.

Fun Fact: Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat was first published on March 12th in 1957.

We read our book and of course had to make Hats! We started with a red hat, that I cut out. Each child got a glue stick, white stripes, and black letters for their name. I pre-cut the letters with a Sizzix die cut machine so they were small enough to fit on the hats. Each child put their strips onto their hat and glued them down. Then, during independent play I called each student over to my table one at a time to help them with the order of their name, however most of them proved me wrong and did it completely by themselves!

They had a ton of fun making Cat in the Hat and putting them on our Dr. Seuss bulletin board!
