Early Childhood Religion Studies

Ever since Jeff Foxworthy graced us with his presence on the hit TV Show “Are you smarter than a fifth grader,” and now on “American Bible Challenge”….. I found a way to incorporate this “game show” technique into my classroom. Although, with early childhood, it may seem a little too difficult, but YOU can introduce a knowledge of the bible into your daily routine. After we do pledge, we say the Lord’s prayer! Some of the student are still learning it, but hopefully by the end of the year the children will be able to recite it by themselves. I introduced the Lord’s Prayer in a pocket chart with photos correlating to the words, it definitely helps my visual learners.

Throughout the day, we incorporate bible knowledge, such as: praying before our meals, reciting a weekly bible verse or reviewing simple biblical stories like Adam & Eve, Jonah and the whale, Daniel in the lion’s den, and Joseph’s colorful dream coat!

I have created a kid version of the game show to help review our bible knowledge. I open the PDF on my screen and read the question out loud. I also use flannel board pieces to review certain stories within the game. The kids LOVE it and are always eager to answer first. (We are still working on raising hands to answer questions in turn)

You can use each of these packets during chapel discussions, on a white board, or print out and place in page protectors for a 3 ring binder with a dry erase markers!American Bible Challenge for Kids: Level One

Our 2014-2015 Academic Themes

As we kick off our new school year, my goal this year is to STAY ORGANIZED throughout. I have always had OCD tendencies which is a great quality to have a teacher, but as the year goes on. . . I tend to lack my organization skills as my schedule gets busier. My 2014 teaching goal is to post each and every lesson plan & activities, then reflect on which activities and management tools actually worked out correctly and which ones need to be tweaked. I find tons of great tools to use on sites like Pinterest & Teachers Pay Teachers, but in reality. . . some of the items I have purchased don’t work with my style of teaching.

To begin our new academic year, I have posted my classrooms Academic Themes and concentration areas we will focus on in the coming months. As I add the themed lesson plans, a link will about for each date. You can click on the date and it will take you to the post for that theme, which will include: the lesson plan, activities I used and the links to download or purchase, photos of how I used them in the classroom, and a reflection on the products and reactions of my students.

Early Learning Math Concept Packs

As summer starts with backyard barbeques, ice cream cones, and long days spent at the beach. . .summer camp is in full swing! I think the hardest thing about summer for teachers is the dreaded thought of coming back in August and having a class full of students who completely forget everything they learned the previous year over the long two month break of summer. Half of our year is spent reviewing past concepts and reminding students to build on what they already know. So, in order to keep my kids brushed up on their math skills, we have created a few basic early learning math concepts packets to use for early childhood.

These packets introduce basic math skills such as number recognition, number formation, measurement knowledge, and counting skills.

Each packet includes: 1 Themed Graph (class participation), number clothespin cards covering numbers 1-12, counting mats covering numbers 1-10, pom-pom counting mats covering numbers 1-10, number tracing 1-20, addition and subtraction mats, and a measurements mat with recording sheet. In honor of some amazing women, our class created some pretty amazing sayings for our mother’s day awards, along with some homemade cookbooks and banana bread! Hopefully my mother’s will enjoy their child’s enthusiasm in the kitchen as much as I need here at school.

Easter Writing and Dictation Paper Pack

It’s finally April and everyone in school is getting ready for Spring time crafts, gardening, and lots fun activities like Easter egg hunts and egg dying. Our classroom is filled with pastel paintings, “chicken” feathers, and all things plastic grass. As we start to wrap up our themed lesson plans, Easter and Spring are two of my favorites to teach. I love the bright colors, fresh smells, and the excitement of a school egg hunt.

However, we still must continue the grind of everyday writing and dictation pieces. On that note, I have created a fun set of writing and dictation printable papers to spruce up our spring writing prompts and Easter theme week. Easter Writing and Dictation PaperThis printables includes 15 pages of written dictation sheets and lined paper with a Spring theme of Easter bunnies. Jazz up your dictation piece and display your student writing prompts in a creative way. These papers are also good for early learners and pre-writing. These files are hosted on TPT
