This month we had a western week and were very busy wrapping up the month of March. First, we started be making some spiny cactus! I prepped the cactus and our cowboy poem. . .
In the desert, In the hot sun
Grows a cactus big & tall
It’s green and spiny
It’s the best of them all!
They had to write their names on the poem paper and glue on their cactus to a tan piece of construction paper. Then I passed out plastic forks and plates with green paint. They had to make spikes on their cactus by pushing their forks across their paper.
Then, while our cactus were drying, we discussed what else besides cactus starts with the letter C? They answered: “cow, cat, coins, candy cane, and Chloe.” We then began our Worksheet: What Starts with the letter C?
They had to color the cowboy, cut out the boxes with the pictures that started with the letter C and glue them to their paper.
Throughout the week, we also made brown paper bag horses with brown felt!
We used silver dot markers to make horseshoes, which we learned are for good luck!
On Friday, we had a very special activity. . .panning for gold!
We used gold beads, cut from a necklace, tin pans, and flour….since we didn’t want to use sand on our playground! You could easily substitute play sand or a dirt/water mixture for the students to sift through!
