Charlie the Ranch Dog Books

meet reeI just have to introduce you to one of my class’ favorite authors, Ree Drummond (also known as The Pioneer Woman). Her adorably cute books are a MUST in our class library. Every time I read a “Charlie” book as they call it, there are always roars of laughter and smiles. They can’t get enough of Charlie the Ranch Dog. reecircle

I mean, honestly it’s starting to become a distraction when I DON’T read a Charlie book for large group time. So, I have to find creative ways to incorporate Charlie into my lesson plans now. . .who knew a sleepy little ranch dog would be taking over my classroom!

I really would not have it any other way. . .so meet Charlie and Ree. They live on a working cattle ranch in Oklahoma. Charlie is Ree’s basset hound and they love going on new adventures. Each book is packed with silly stories through the eyes of Charlie. The books also include Ree’s four children and husband, along with all the other animals on their ranch.

The first book I introduced was Charlie Goes to School.pioneer You would not believe how cute Charlie is when he tries to get the other ranch animals to go to school so he can nap! This book has wonderful illustrations by Diane deGroat that capture Charlie’s true personality. It is a wonderful back to school book to share with your kiddos.

The book Charlie the Ranch Dog introduces Charlie as a ranch dog who mends fences and gardens with his sweet family. With his big floppy ears and his big sweet disposition, Charlie melts hearts in his very own book. This is a great book that you can read all year long or for any season.

The book Charlie and the New Baby is an adorable book about when the family brings home a baby calf and puts its on Charlie’s bed. Charlie is confused about all the commotion and fuss over the new baby. Charlie is sweet and what the love and attention back from his family.

The book Charlie Plays Ball is wonderful book about how Charlie goes from helping out with the cattle to football and soccer games with the family. It’s a hilarious book about sports and spirit as Charlie enjoys his postgame meal.

christmaspioneerHoliday books are always a hit too, especially if it includes Mr. Charlie in them.  Charlie and the Christmas Kitty is all about holiday spirit and how people or animals can come into our lives unexpectedly and become some of our best friends. This a new holiday tradition in our classroom. . .now if I could just find the Charlie stuffed animal, my Charlie collection would be complete!
