Tee Turkeys for Fine Motor

Our room mom for our Thanksgiving Day celebration came up with this great craft to make turkeys! Our mom purchased styro-foam balls (cut into halves). In small groups a few days before our party, we had each student paint theirs brown because it would need several coats of acrylic paint. We let them dry over night and made sure most of the area was covered with brown.

The day of the party, each child was given different colored golf tees to hammer into their styro-foam “bodies.” We used plastic mallets and hammers from our pretend dramatic play center.

The kids really had a blast hammering these into their turkeys and it worked our fine motor skills and visual perception. Some of the students wanted to add faces with paper and squiggly eyes. I just love how the different colored tees made the turkey look like he had really “colorful” feathers.1124150802
